5 Classic Picture Cars from Hollywood Movies

How Our Picture Car Rentals Can Enhance Your Photo-shoot

What would be more awe-inspiring or attention-grabbing than featuring an automobile in your wedding photos that was used in a Hollywood blockbuster? Can you just imagine shooting your music video or film project with the added authenticity of a legendary car from a particular era in the background? If you have been looking for that special something to make your photoshoot project – regardless of subject matter – truly unique, Vinty’s picture car rentals service will provide the edge you need.

Organizing a music video or cinematic film shoot is daunting enough of a proposition, so we understand that you want to make your picture car rental experience as easy as possible. Our formidable background in these matters – and we’ve worked with such giants as NBC, Netflix, Sony, Columbia, Paramount and Warner Brothers – will leave you assured that your vehicles are perfectly maintained and will look drop-dead-gorgeous in your photos.

But what if you’ve been stuck in a position of uncertainty? Perhaps you have a general idea for a photo shoot and know for sure that you want to feature a certain kind of ride, but you’re also wondering about some of the more famous “movie cars” and their roles in certain films. Indeed, at Vinty, we love cinema about as much as we love automobiles, and we’re just as smitten with fascination as the next guy when we re-watch Vin Diesel and Paul Walker race their Charger and Supra, respectively, at the end of The Fast and the Furious.

With that in mind, we thought it would be interesting to put together a “Five Classic Pictures Cars from Hollywood Films” list to give you an idea of which rides were some of the most iconic up on the silver screen. Perhaps these will provide you some inspiration for your next project, or maybe they will simply fulfill some hidden curiosity you’ve harbored if you’re a car enthusiast; either way, we hope you find the following information as fascinating as we did.

1. Dodge Charger from the Fast and the Furious

dodge-charger-r-t-used-on-screen-by-vin-diesel-on-fast-and-furious.jpg

You know we couldn’t kick off this list without making an honorable mention of the car racing favorite hinted at above. Directed by Rob Cohen and based on a documentary-esque story concerning the fiercely popular Los Angeles import vehicle street racing scene at the time dubbed “Racer X,” The Fast and Furious would be the unlikely juggernaut for a Universal-sanctioned franchise ready to announce its ninth entry. While the series has gone from focusing on wildly hued and accessorized street race cars and scantily-clad young women who cheer these racers on to plots concerning international espionage, it’s still the original film released in 2001 that most fans adore the most – and which gets most car buffs’ engines racing.

The mean black Dodge Charger that Vin Diesel’s “Dom” character drives towards the end of the film was a 1970 model designed by Cinema Vehicles and remains an icon in more modern-esque cinema.

2. DeLorean from Back to the Future

delorean-car-from-back-to-the-future.jpg

Remember Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly? For those of us old enough to recall this sci-fi classic, Marty and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travel through time in the sexy-yet-futuristic DeLorean, a vehicle like no other. To the uninitiated back in the era this film was released, the DeLorean came off as something designed for Back to the Future – not a production vehicle that could actually be purchased at a dealership.

3. XB GT Ford Falcon from Mad Max

the-1973-ford-xb-falcon-hardtop-gt351.jpg

One of the most beloved sci-fi barnstormers of all time, 1979’s Mad Max was set in a bleak desert landscape devoid of natural resources – but to the rescue was Mel Gibson’s homonymous hero character and his 1973 XB GT Ford Falcon, designed by the team responsible for its creation to be radical and outlaw-ish.

4. 1968 Mustang from Bullitt

1968-ford-mustang-bullitt-movie-car.jpg

Before The Fast and the Furious or even Michael Bay’s The Rock – which featured a hair-raising car chase sequence between two main characters through the streets of San Francisco – there was Bullitt and the rip-roaring 1968 Mustang that defined that film’s thrilling San Fran-based chases. The car was chosen because it best suited the film’s protagonist, Frank Bullitt; indeed, it was realistic because it was a car a cop could afford but also one that had some bite and attitude.

5. Cadillac Miller-Meteor Hearse from Ghostbusters

side-view-of-the-ghostbusters-cadillac-fleetwood.jpg

Dispensing with all the “Slimer” references and jokes, the 1980s smash hit Ghostbusters remains etched in fans’ minds mainly because of the 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor hearse driven by the titular heroes of the film. A cool yet classic vehicle which has taken its place in cinematic history, the hearse was originally purchased in poor condition and demanded a host of upgrades from the production team, namely a reworked suspension, modified brakes, modified gurney in back to fit the proton packs of the Ghostbusters and a plethora of external alterations.

If these five favorites don’t quite hit your ignition button, Popular Mechanics has put together its Top 40 Movie Cars of All Time list, one which encompasses everything from the aforementioned DeLorean to the Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit.

Reach out to Vinty today if you’re in need of something genuinely different for your next big photoshoot project.

Finding the Perfect Wedding Car for Your Vintage-Themed Wedding

A lot of thought goes into putting together your special day. It will undoubtedly be a highlight of your life, one you’ll recount and share for years to come. You’ve found your dream venue, you know exactly what’s going to be on the menu, and you put together the perfect playlist for the dance floor. But, there’s one detail you may have missed in the hustle of organizing that Vinty can help you check off your list: renting the perfect vintage wedding car.

Make the Little Moments Count

The best part of your wedding day is having all your loved ones in the same place to celebrate you finding someone to spend your life with. However, all that attention becomes overwhelming. A solitary moment with your partner may only come in your drive from the wedding after your processional exit. Make those fleeting moments some of the best of the day. Sharing the experience of a drive in an iconic wedding car will not only keep your Prius out of your wedding photos but give your first minutes as a couple a little extra magic.

Capture Every Second

While taking photos might not be the most memorable part of your wedding day, they are the best way to capture all those incredible memories you will make. Give your photos plenty of thought, they will be the way you share your special day with your children and your children’s children. Here are some tips to make sure you capture every one of those special moments as well as you can:

1.      Define Your Style

Make sure you and your partner have thought out and written down exactly what you want the feel of the wedding will be. Are you thinking rustic or modern, refined or all-inclusive, simple or ornate? The more specific you can get, the easier it is for your photographer to capture things the way you want them to be captured.

2.      Do Your Research

To make sure you find the perfect professional to shoot your wedding, make sure you give yourself time to research and meet with a couple of photographers before you commit. Really pore through their portfolios and look for the details. The shots should be thoughtfully composed, well-edited, and well-lit. Most importantly, you should feel that they captured each couple’s individual style. Once you’ve found some candidates, sit down with them and make sure you all connect on a personal level.  The more face time they have with you, the more they’ll get to know what you’re looking for and the more they will be invested in shooting amazing photos for you!

3.      Hedge Your Bets

Sometimes planning to redundancy can give you a little extra peace of mind. If you really want to make sure you get every moment captured on your special day, why not hire 2 different photographers? Try and find two individuals you connect with but are stylistically unique. While you might have a few extra photos to sort through after the fact, you will not miss a moment.

4.      Be unique!

Plan some interesting scenes and props that speak to your unique style. Take full advantage of the natural beauty around an outdoor wedding. Make sure your menu and table setting speak to your personalities and bring all your loved ones together. Props like ribbon wands or sparklers will make your processional exit (one of the most photographed parts of the wedding) a farewell to remember. And, be sure to rent a vintage car for that extra luxurious and classy detail. If your choices reflect your own personality, there is no wrong answer.

Choose The Best Vintage Car For You

We know you are searching for that little detail that will transform your wedding day into a fairy tale that represents you and your partner’s unique love. Vinty’s classic wedding car collection can cater to any style. You can go the truly classic route with a restored 1930 Model A (don’t worry, it has air conditioning). If the luxury look is what you are going for, the 1955 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud or Princess Phantom might be your choice.  Are you and your happily ever after looking for something with a little muscle? Maybe you could peel out in a 1969 Pontiac Firebird or a 1966 Ford Mustang GT. Whatever your style, Vinty has the vintage wedding car for you.

Interview

How did your passion for cars get started?

  • As a Michigan transplant, my family is very much rooted in the auto industry. Specifically, my grandpa started a Ford Model A, Model T and Roadster reproduction company. I initially got involved in owning vintage vehicles when I purchased and restored my 1966 Clark Cortez camper in 2014 (link to the story) so I could spend stints in Flagstaff, Arizona to train for the Olympic Trials Marathon.

How long have you been with Vinty? Estimated income from rentals?

  • I joined vinty in 2017 when Pierre reached out to me regarding a production opportunity with 76 Gas Station. Since then I have done several rentals with Vinty, including a continued campaign with 76 Gas Station over the years and have grown my fleet of vintage vehicles and props/sets for my business, Epoch Restorations and Adventures.

Since joining Vinty mid-2017, Epoch did about 10 rentals with about $20,000 in revenue.

What do you enjoy most about being able to rent your classic cars through Vinty?

  • I like the peace of mind. I know that when a rental is booked through Vinty it is a bound agreement and I am covered in terms of cancelations.

  • I stick with Vinty because I get to control the rental prices and Vinty is open to various ways to promote my entire fleet.

What was your most memorable rental?

What advice would you give to other car collectors?

  • I would tell prospective renters to be open to production opportunities that might sound a little out of the box. Set the parameters early on if there are any alterations comes shoot day, be sure to get it in writing if there are any additional add-ons or requests.

Interview

How did your passion for cars get started?

  • We are the owners of an exciting new start-up called Garage 77. We are a shared work and recreational space. Our space is 70's inspired and we have several vintage pinball machines, guitars and a 1950's 22-foot long shuffleboard table. As part of the experience, our members can enjoy our fleet of classic cars whenever they wish. They can take them home for a few days or just use them to run errands or pick their kids up from school. I live in Hermosa Beach, California and although it's a great place to live and raise a family, our living space and parking space is limited. I'm not what you'd consider a car enthusiast, I just enjoy driving cool classic cars around town. The idea for Garage 77 was to build the club I'd like to join. I work from home (now from Garage 77), and I like to have a space to entertain clients and friends. Garage 77 is the perfect place to do that. Also, the ability to enjoy the cars without the hassle or maintenance is a big part of the Garage 77 experience

How long have you been with Vinty? Estimated income from rentals?

  • As a start-up, Vinty has been instrumental in giving us access to additional revenue. We joined about 2 years ago and the experience has been terrific. Having our cars used in films and photoshoots is a great way to add revenue without adding excessive wear and tear to the vehicles. Our business model has changed because of this. We are able to maintain more cars for our members thanks to the added revenue from Vinty!

Since joining Vinty mid-2017, Garage 77 did about 30 rentals with about $30,000 in revenue.

What do you enjoy most about being able to rent your classic cars through Vinty?

  • The added revenue for placing our cars in films and photoshoots while not adding many miles. Also the freedom to charge our own security deposits which other sites like Turo do not permit.

What was your most memorable rental?

What advice would you give to other car collectors?

  • Trust your instincts. Get a security deposit every time. Always ask for a COI from the production company and make sure it protects the vehicle and not just liability.

  • Take photos before and after of course! Always try to upsell some services like delivery and a car handler. Driving the vehicle yourself or by a trusted contractor is much better than having someone new drive. Insist on having the car towed to location if more than 30 miles. There is always a risk of mechanical failure on these old cars no matter how well maintained so it's good to be ready for contingencies. Have a network of inexpensive tow guys and also have access to someone mechanical who can go out and solve issues on the spot is very handy

Interview

How did your passion for cars get started?

  • I’m super new to the world of classic vehicles and basically just stumbled into it. A year and a half ago after moving to LA, I was looking for a truck in my price budget, but I wanted something that fit my vibe. Which is when I came across my 1980 Chevy Silverado Camper Special.

How long have you been with Vinty? Estimated income from rentals?

  • I have been with Vinty since October 2018. And the reason I sought out a company that rented out classic vehicles was that I was receiving so many great comments about my truck whenever I was driving it. The Vinty website looked like a great platform to showcase my classic vehicle, and since I’ve joint Vinty it has proven to have value.

Since joining Vinty last year ago, Calvin did about 10 rentals with about $2,500 in profit.

What do you enjoy most about being able to rent your classic cars through Vinty?

  • I like that the communication between client and owner is made to be very simple. And when questions arise about any step of the process Vinty is very helpful and quick to respond.

  • I feel as though I am working with genuine people.

What was your most memorable rental?

  • My most memorable rental was also my most recent and my truck was being used in a short film. One of the lead actors so happened to be a childhood favorite of mine and her character played the owner of my truck.

What advice would you give to other car collectors?

  • For anyone looking to use Vinty to rent their cars, I think it is important to iron out all details and concerns dealing with your vehicle before you say yes to the job.

Interview

How did your passion for cars get started?

  • In 1961, I was 4 years old and my earliest memory is riding in my uncle's 1936 Dodge. He lived “out bush” in Australia, and that lovely old lady took the corrugations and dirt roads with ease . The feeling of space, high back seat and pure adventure started me on my life long love of these cars. By 1971, her axle was broken and to my distress she was allowed to rot and deteriorated in his yard, windows down, magpies tearing at the upholstery. I loved my uncle but that desecration forever put a barrier between us. In 1975, I bought my first car , I was 18 and the old beauty that took my eye was a 1946 Oldsmobile. How I loved her! But, as a stick shift, three on the column, that old clutch got the better of me and I could never drive her. Married in 1984, my choice for my wedding limousine was a 1929 Model A sedan. It was a wonderful day, made sublime by driving in that sexy old darling. Life continued, and it wasn’t until my 57th birthday that my hubby bought me a 1957 Ford Fairlane Skyliner. Now I own 6 other vintage cars, ranging from a 1936 Dodge to a 1975 Cadillac El Dorado. They fill my heart with joy and I’ve got my eye on another even older beauty, maybe an obsession or hoarding tendencies coming out? No matter!

How long have you been with Vinty? Estimated income from rentals?

  • Vinty contacted me about 2 years ago to use my cars through their company. It’s a win win for us, since then we have driven brides, toured Hollywood, wine tasted in the Ojai Valley and been in parades, including the Pasadena crazy parade and the SriLanka day parade twice. I even drove the ambassador and his wife in the parade!

  • We stick with Vinty as they are a proven success story for us and the relationship with the company is much appreciated. I trust them and truly wish them every great success with their business.

Since joining Vinty 2 years ago, Sandra did about 15 rentals with about $5,000 in profit.

What do you enjoy most about being able to rent your classic cars through Vinty?

  • The best part of using our cars through Vinty is the people we meet, who also love these cars, and it’s a thrill driving a vintage car newbie and seeing them catch the fire of classics for the first time..

What was your most memorable rental?

  • We have been in 3 photo shoots, one for a swimwear company, another for Lyft and recently in a movie set in the late 40’s. I haven’t seen the end products as yet but it will be fun when I do.

What advice would you give to other car collectors?

  • My best advice to other vintage car owners is to sign up with Vinty, you retain total control on what you want to do with your cars, we personally do not allow renters to drive them, but you can, you set your hourly or daily fees. Vinty’s take is reasonable and fair. They are a trustworthy organisation. I really am very comfortable dealing with them.
